What Makes Be Lit Soy Candles
Smell So Strong?

It's a tale as old as time - you sniff each candle in front of you, expertly pick the scent that suits you and draws your attention.  Delighted, you go to light it up and find... nothing!
The real question here is, what makes certain candles smell stronger than others?  Why (and how) does a candle smell differently before and after it's lit?

Throw - Cold & Hot

When a candle has never been lit, the aromatic aroma that the wax gives off is called the cold scent throw.  Then, when the wick of the candle is lit, the fragrant smell that is released from the candle is called the hot scent throw.  Both the hot and cold scent throw are very important to candles, and it is also important to make a distinction between the two.
Be Lit candles are expertly designed and made (right here in the USA!) to have excellent throw, both cold and hot.  Why is that?  We know you pick a candle based on the way it smells in hand, and we want you to love your candle to the very last drop of wax!

Fragrance

One might think "the answer is obvious!" - That a stronger fragrance, or rather, more fragrance will make a candle smell more strongly.  Contrary to reason, this really isn't the case!  Calculating the amount of fragrance needed is a delicate science, amounts differing depending on the quality of the fragrance and the other elements of the candle, the wax, the coloring, etcetera.  There's a point where adding more fragrance oil to a candle won't change a single thing about the throw, hot or cold.

For example, our Strain Collection of Candles are all made with premium, high quality fragrance oils from a premium source - this ensures that diluents and other chemicals that would otherwise hamper the throw are not present.

We also take great care to include as much fragrance oil as will benefit the candle - our carefully calculated recipe allows us to achieve the best throw with the minimal amount of waste!

Wax

You may not know it but almost every candle you've ever seen is made with either Soy Wax or Paraffin Wax - and the great debate between which is better is still the subject of candle making forums every day.  While Paraffin tends to throw scent a bit further, it is a bi-product of petroleum, and the deleterious side effects are enough for another article.

Soy wax candles generally burn longer than paraffin candles and soy wax is derived from natural vegetables while paraffin is a refined gasoline by-product.  Soy wax is also 100% biodegradable while paraffin was is not.

The real reason we use Soy wax here at Be Lit Brand for our candles? Soy wax releases fragrance easier than paraffin candles!

Coloring

Everything you add to a candle changes the way it burns - even the coloring!  This is why, with our Crystal Collection of Candles, we've chosen to keep them au natural.  This line uses delicate, premium essential oil based fragrances to achieve maximum holistic benefits.  Which scents line Heliotrope, Cedar & Sage, Bergamot & Lime and Eucalyptus & Mint, one doesn't want to water it down!
